Recycled T-Shirt Skirt

What do you do with those t-shirts that seem to just pile up? Throw them away? Donate to thrift stores? Use as rags? Ever thought of recycling them to make a hot trendy skirt for the warmer weather? Well someone did! The weather is getting hot and what better way to get some sun on those legs than to reveal them? Click here to view the directions on how to make this cute and trendy A-line skirt. Only took me an hour to make this one and I plan on making more as soon as I gather more t-shirts. :)

Carrot Cake

Each week in Corse 1 of Wilton cake decorating, we are required to bring in a cake to decorate in class using the techniques that we just learned. For week 3, I brought in a carrot cake. We learned how to pipe in class so how do you expect me to decorate a "carrot cake"? With carrots! I piped carrots and added leafs to each, but my favorite part is adding the crushed oreos on the top for potting soil. I love it! My boss's birthday just happens to be the same weekend so I will be bringing the cake in to work on Monday for everyone to enjoy.

Love cake - my first

This is my first decorated cake. We learned pattern transfers in class. The book suggested that we do a rainbow but I like to be different and not follow the crowd so I decided to do this instead. My Nana's birthday was yesterday but we're visiting today. I'll be bringing this along to share with everyone. It's a two layered rainbow chip cake iced in buttercream frosting.

Wilton Cake Decorating class

I have always been amazed by the blending of food and art! It's two fun things in one: creativity and delicious goodness! I've decided to enroll in Wilton cake decorating classes, offered by Michael's Arts & Crafts, my favorite crafting store. I had my first class today where we learned the basics of cake decorating, such as how to make the buttercream frosting and a few flower techniques. I decided to practice a little bit. It wasn't until later that I learned that it's not very easy to transfer buttercream flowers....that's corse 2 with royal icing.

Homemade Birthday Card

Homemade cards need to be brought back, and not just by those ages 8 and below. Making a card for a friend or loved one says so much more than walking down the aisle at Wal Mart and picking one out. A handmade card tells the recipient that they are special enough to you that you would take the time to make it for them. It also allows you to put your own words down as to how you really feel. For my Nana's birthday, I created this card - she hung it up on her wall as soon as she read it with a smile.
